AnyCaptions 1.6.1: Premiere Pro caption editing updates
AnyCaptions 1.6.1 makes editing animated captions in Adobe Premiere Pro easier, with custom template backups, search for longer transcripts and clearer controls for splitting and joining captions. This post covers the updates since our 1.5.2 launch, including versions 1.5.3, 1.5.4 and 1.6.0.
Back up and restore custom caption templates
Your custom caption styles can now travel with you. In the Templates card, use Export templates… to save your custom templates to a JSON file, then Import templates… to restore them after reinstalling AnyCaptions or moving to another Mac.
Imports keep your existing templates and rename conflicting copies so you don't lose a saved look. You can also import an older presets.json backup.
Templates contain text styling and animation. They don't include caption text, projects or font files, and importing them leaves your current captions and grouping settings alone. Install any required fonts separately, and keep your backup on another drive or in cloud storage before formatting your Mac.
Deleting a saved template now asks for confirmation, with Delete and Cancel buttons. The confirmation sits below the template list, keeping the template boxes at their normal height.
Search captions in longer Premiere Pro sequences
The Captions list now shows 100 captions per passage, with Previous passage and Next passage controls and a count showing where you are. This replaces the previous 400-caption display limit, so you can reach captions throughout a longer sequence.
Use Search captions to find a word or phrase, including phrases that span caption boundaries. Search ignores case and punctuation, and you can move between matches with Enter and Shift+Enter. Press Esc to clear the search.
Jump to playhead brings the relevant caption into view without moving Premiere's playhead. Searching also leaves the playhead in place, so you can look up wording while keeping your timeline position.
Split and join captions with Edit breaks
Edit breaks makes the boundaries between caption groups visible. Split a caption at a word boundary, join neighbouring captions, or restore automatic grouping for a manually adjusted group. Manual groups are labelled, and changes work with the existing Undo, Redo and Live update controls.
We also fixed the background refresh that could unexpectedly close Edit breaks mode, and improved split and join handling when the same source passage appears more than once on the timeline.
A tidier panel and more reliable text editing
The panel has updated pill buttons, cleaner sliders and clickable colour swatches. Related settings, such as shadow softness and distance, sit beneath their main control. At wider panel sizes, the controls arrange into two columns.
Text you're typing is better protected during caption-list refreshes and passage changes. If you switch sequences with an uncommitted edit, that draft is shown for review when you return. Playhead highlighting also does less work as you move through longer transcripts.
